Description
This sanctuary was conceived in the 20s and in 1924 the first stone for its construction was laid. From some historical data it seems that the construction was completed around 1926, the date on which the consecration of the temple also seems to have taken place.
It is a sanctuary, or we can define it as a cultural complex, of neo-Gothic construction. The dimensions are rather small, but the execution and beauty are immediately noticeable at first sight.
The project was made by Mr. Spirito Maria Chiappetta, he was an important Italian architect, engineer and priest. Chiappetta is known above all for his production of sacred architecture, he was also architect of the Holy See during the pontificate of Pope Pius XI.
From 1944 to 1945 the temple was located in a war zone and suffered several damages. However, the repairs were all carried out after the war and concluded in a very short time.
In fact, in December 1947, the church was officially elevated to a Sanctuary by the current Bishop of Cesena (FC).
An important historical note of this Sanctuary is that in 1927 the body of Don Luigi Ghinelli, founder of the Institute of Poor Children of Gatteo, was brought to the church. The body is now in a sarcophagus next to the altar.
Thoughts
When you find yourself in front of this sanctuary you immediately notice the influence of Gothic architecture and this neo-Gothic style building presents itself very well. The red color of the stones with which it is built immediately attracts attention.
Gatteo is a small town in Romagna that also has an outlet to the sea. When you visit the center in the hinterland, you immediately notice an old fortress, then while walking in the center this jewel of a neo-Gothic sanctuary pops out that certainly leaves anyone who passes in front of it amazed.

Descrizione
Questo santuario fu pensato negli anni 20 e nel 1924 fu posata la prima pietra per la costruzione di esso. Da alcuni dati storici sembra che la costruzione fu terminata intorno al 1926, data in cui sembra che sia avvenuta anche la consacrazione del tempio.
È un santuario, oppure possiamo definirlo un complesso culturale, di costruzione neogotica. Le dimensioni sono piuttosto ridotte, ma l’esecuzione e la bellezza si notano subito a prima vista.
Il progetto fu fatto dal sig. Spirito Maria Chiappetta, egli fu un importante architetto, ingegnere e sacerdote italiano. Chiappetta è noto soprattutto per la sua produzione di architettura sacra, inoltre fu anche architetto della Santa Sede durante il pontificato di Papa Pio XI.
Dal 1944 al 1945 il tempio si trovava proprio in zona di guerra e subì diversi danni. Le riparazioni comunque furono tutte effettuate nel dopoguerra e concluse in brevissimo tempo.
Infatti nel dicembre del 1947, la chiesa fu ufficialmente elevata a Santuario dall’attuale Vescovo di Cesena (FC).
Un'importante nota storica di questo Santuario è che nel 1927 fu portata in chiesa la salma di don Luigi Ghinelli, fondatore dell’Istituto dei Fanciulli Poveri di Gatteo. La salma ora si trova in un sarcofago accanto all’altare.
Pensieri
Quando ci si trova davanti a questo santuario si nota subito l’influenza dell’architettura gotica e questo edificio in stile neogotico si presenta molto bene. Il colore rosse delle pietre con cui è costruito attira subito l’attenzione.
Gatteo è un piccolo paese della Romagna che ha anche uno sbocco sul mare. Quando si visita il centro nell’entroterra, si nota subito una vecchia rocca, poi mentre si passeggia nel centro sbuca fuori questo gioiello di santuario neogotico che lascia sicuramente stupito chiunque possa passargli davanti.
