Hello everyone!
Initially, I planned to tell you about our trip with my son to the oldest Muay Thai school in Pattaya, but life made its own adjustments. Today, an event happened that turned my plans upside down, and I just can’t help but share it with you. I’ll tell you about the Muay Thai school in the next post, but now - about an unexpected find that took me back to the past.

In my mother’s closet, I accidentally came across an old bag. When I opened it, I froze: there were things in there that I hadn’t remembered for more than ten years. This was my photo and video equipment, which I thought was lost forever. To explain why this find is so important, I need to go back 12 years. At that time, I was going through a difficult divorce from my first wife. It was a difficult period: I started drinking, and at some point I decided to sell my apartment and move to another city. I took some of the things, threw some away, and I simply forgot about this bag with equipment. I thought my ex-wife had taken it, and over time I completely erased it from my memory. It turned out that my mother had kept the bag, but she had forgotten about it for many years.

When I opened the bag, I realized that my passion for photography had begun much earlier than I thought. Among the finds was my old Canon PowerShot S5 IS camera, bought in 2007 for $600. Back then, it was one of the best in its class, especially for macro photography — it could take clear shots from almost zero distance. Today, you can find it on second-hand sites for only $30, but for me, it is priceless. Along with the camera, I found a bunch of flash drives with photos taken in 2009 in Bali and Singapore. Leafing through them, I felt like I was living those trips all over again. Now I have an idea: to launch a section called “Old Photos from a Lost Camera.” I’m already thinking about how to design it so that it would be interesting for you, my readers.

Another find — a Sony DCR-HC90E video camera, bought around the same time for $900. This little thing was a real treasure: it shot high-quality videos and took photos with a resolution of 2016×1512 pixels. I took it to Bali and Singapore, and it still works! True, there was no charger for it, but I already ordered a universal one for $8. I can’t wait to watch the videos from 15 years ago — I wonder what emotions they will evoke.

And finally, a surprise from the bag — an additional lens bought in Singapore’s Chinatown. This story still makes me smile. Then the sellers convinced me that this lens would make my videos “Hollywood-like”, and without hesitation I paid $800. A couple of hours later I found out that in the store it costs only $180. I returned to Chinatown to sort things out, but the seller made a scene, and I, not knowing English, just left. Only today, years later, I found out that this is a macro lens. At the time, I didn’t even understand what it was and was angry at myself for deceiving me. Now I laugh - it was a valuable lesson.

Now the camera has passed into the hands of my son. He enthusiastically tries to take pictures, copying my movements, and it’s so funny to watch! I thought of an experiment: to take macro photos with an old Canon and with my new camera, and then compare the results. I think it will be interesting.
This discovery reminded me how important it is to preserve memories. Each photo, each video is a piece of life that can be relived. And I also realized that my love for photography did not begin yesterday, but many years ago.

I write my texts myself, correct mistakes and translate via ChatGPT (which is not a violation on Hive)!
All photos were taken by me personally - I am a beginner photographer, so I ask professionals not to judge strictly.

Thank you for sharing these moments with me! Until new stories and new holidays!
