My dad is popularly recognised as one of the best printers in my local government area. Most industrial companies and educational sectors often come to him to carry out their printing jobs, which include making calendars, cutting papers, printing hard covers and ruling of book lines.

Right from childhood, I have been trained on how to use a ruling machine because that is his major job, making local ruling machines, and most people from different states, including neighbouring countries like Ghana and Cameroon, have once called him to deliver their jobs.

My first experience with him in the factory was when I assisted him in counting papers, and back then, we often used our hands to count papers, and trust me, we were very fast. It was only recently that we got a machine that counts papers. It wasn't so easy, I wanted to learn the use of the cutting machine, but my dad did no@ allow me back then because he said it was too dangerous for me to use.

My knowledge about the use of most printing machines started with my dad, especially when the machine developed a fault, my dad would fix the machine and couple it back, and he often made sure we watched everything with him from the beginning till the end of it, and this was how we learnt.

One major skill I learnt so perfectly from him is making a local rolling machine, he told me people prefer the local old ones to he new one because it is more portable and easier to move and use. The construction of the board, the arrangement of the space and disc and the motor location and also the belt size, I learn every bit of it perfectly from him and trust me, I can make a new MACHINE perfectly without any fault.

Basically, my dad earned more from selling these local ruling machines he made and also repairing them than even printing jobs himself. He also engages in selling cutting machines, but he doesn't make cutting machines; instead, he buys them, repairs and sells them, or buys a new one.

Thanks to my dad, I gained basic knowledge about engineering and how it really works, especially in simple mechanical repairs, and I can make adjustments to it with my basic idea on this.

In my country, most people engage in personal occupations because it is far more preferable than engaging in salaried work. This is why people often buy MACHINEs like this from different states and collect local contracts from each other, and this simple occupation has really helped and fed a lot of families.

Personally, I still look forward to having my own RULLING machine production company and using my dad's influence to market based on my marketing strategies and effective communication skills. It's all about risk and trials, but determination will bring it success. Day by day, my head keeps bringing up creative and innovative ideas that can be profitable, but what I need is a target, marketing strategies and also finances.

This is my entry to Hivelearners Week 173 Episode 1.
