For today’s post, I’ve gone full cowboy mode with a piece I call Cowboy Dog — yes, you guessed it, inspired by one of those adorable, quirky TikTok videos that live rent-free in my head. The star of this artwork? A charming little dog caught in the act of “driving,” wearing a cowboy hat like it was born for the Wild West.
There’s something genuinely funny and heartwarming about animals doing human things, especially when they carry that unintentional confidence. Drawing Cowboy Dog filled me with joy — it was like channeling a little western spirit through a fluffy, wide-eyed hero behind the wheel. His expression is both serious and comical, as if he's on a mission through the digital desert.

Para esta publicación me dejé llevar por el espíritu vaquero y creé una pieza llamada Cowboy Dog. Sí, así como suena, está inspirada en uno de esos adorables y divertidos videos de TikTok que no puedo dejar de ver. El protagonista de esta obra es un perrito encantador atrapado en el acto de “conducir”, con un sombrero vaquero que le queda como anillo al dedo.
Hay algo realmente divertido y enternecedor en ver animales haciendo cosas humanas, especialmente cuando lo hacen con esa seguridad involuntaria. Dibujar a Cowboy Dog me llenó de alegría, fue como canalizar un pequeño espíritu del viejo oeste a través de un héroe peludo, de mirada seria y al volante, como si estuviera en una misión por el desierto digital.
Cowboy Dog is an anthropomorphic take on a tiny dog with a big attitude. Perched on the driver’s seat, this fluffy driver is locked in focus — one paw on the steering wheel, the other on destiny (or at least that’s what I imagined!). His round brown eyes reflect a mix of duty and daydreaming, while the oversized cowboy hat adds a theatrical flair. He’s not just driving — he’s chasing something epic in his own cartoonish universe.
Cowboy Dog es una interpretación antropomórfica de un perrito pequeño con una gran actitud. Sentado en el asiento del conductor, este peludo conductor está totalmente concentrado: una patita en el volante y la otra en el destino (¡al menos así lo imaginé!). Sus grandes ojos marrones reflejan una mezcla de compromiso y ensoñación, mientras que el sombrero vaquero, un poco más grande que él, le da un toque teatral. No solo conduce — está persiguiendo algo épico en su propio universo caricaturesco.
Process / Proceso
The journey began with the sketch. I wanted to capture that iconic moment when a dog seems to be doing something absurdly human, so I focused on posture and attitude. The sketch was light, playful, and helped me define the placement of the paws, the hat’s angle, and the car’s interior — all from a perspective that would feel both natural and comically exaggerated.
El viaje comenzó con el boceto. Quería capturar ese momento icónico en que un perro parece hacer algo absurdamente humano, así que me concentré en la postura y la actitud. El boceto fue ligero, juguetón y me ayudó a definir la posición de las patitas, el ángulo del sombrero y el interior del auto, todo desde una perspectiva que se sintiera natural y cómicamente exagerada.
Then came the line art. I gave the outlines a clean, confident flow to highlight the character’s softness while maintaining a bit of cartoon boldness. The curves of the ears, the snout, and the rim of the hat were drawn to emphasize cuteness and clarity, without overcomplicating the composition.
Luego vino el delineado. Le di a las líneas un trazo limpio y seguro para resaltar la suavidad del personaje, pero manteniendo un toque audaz típico del estilo caricaturesco. Las curvas de las orejas, el hocico y el borde del sombrero fueron delineadas con cuidado para enfatizar la ternura y la claridad, sin sobrecargar la composición.
Coloring was pure joy. I selected warm, rich tones for the fur and hat — shades of honey, caramel, and chestnut — to evoke that rustic, dusty cowboy vibe. I wanted him to feel like a little outlaw from a Western short film, so I carefully balanced the palette to feel cozy yet adventurous.
Colorear fue un verdadero placer. Elegí tonos cálidos y ricos para el pelaje y el sombrero — tonos de miel, caramelo y castaño — para evocar esa vibra vaquera rústica y polvorienta. Quería que se sintiera como un pequeño forajido de un cortometraje del oeste, así que equilibré cuidadosamente la paleta para que resultara acogedora pero con espíritu aventurero.
For shading, I added subtle contrasts to enhance depth. I focused on the fur’s texture, creating softness with layered shadows under the chin, around the paws, and inside the ears. The lighting helped accentuate the realism without losing the animated charm.
Para las sombras, añadí contrastes sutiles para mejorar la profundidad. Me concentré en la textura del pelaje, creando suavidad con sombras en capas debajo del mentón, alrededor de las patas y dentro de las orejas. La iluminación ayudó a acentuar el realismo sin perder el encanto del estilo animado.
The highlights gave the final pop. A gentle shine on the nose, some brightness on the edges of the hat, and soft light reflected off the fur made the character feel alive. These touches made Cowboy Dog look like he was caught mid-adventure, under the morning sun.
Los brillos le dieron el toque final. Un suave destello en la nariz, un poco de brillo en los bordes del sombrero y una luz tenue sobre el pelaje hicieron que el personaje cobrara vida. Estos detalles hicieron que Cowboy Dog pareciera atrapado en plena aventura, bajo el sol de la mañana.
Finally, I painted the background to match the vibe — a car interior with soft lighting and just enough detail to place the scene without distracting. Through the window, a blurred view of trees gives the sense of motion, like he’s on his way to some wild, four-legged frontier.
Finalmente, pinté el fondo para que coincidiera con la vibra general: el interior de un auto con luz suave y suficientes detalles para situar la escena sin robar protagonismo. A través de la ventana, una vista difusa de árboles sugiere movimiento, como si estuviera en camino a algún lugar salvaje… una frontera de patas y ladridos.
Creating Cowboy Dog was as delightful as watching the TikTok that inspired it. It felt like bottling up a funny, fleeting internet moment and reimagining it with love and a splash of anime flair. I hope this artwork brings a smile to your face the same way it did for me while creating it.
