Mientras estaba un día buscando que ver, encontré Don't Move en netflix y bueno ya sabemos que algunas de las películas de esta plataforma no son muy buenas pero esta no está tan mal, no dura mucho tiempo lo que es perfecto para este tipo de historias simples pero efectivas, está clasificada R por violencia y algunas palabrotas pero nada demasiado extremo, lo único que si me estresó un poco es estar escuchando la respiración pesada durante toda la película. La protagonista es Kelsey Asbille interpretando a Iris, una mujer que acaba de perder a su hijo y está a un paso de quitarse la vida, pero aparece este tipo llamado Richard que la convence de no hacerlo, lo que ella no sabe es que este tipo que aparenta ser muy bueno resulta ser un psicópata total que tiene planes muy retorcidos para ella, como que si esa mujer no tenía suficiente se topó con este loco que llegó para joderle la vida. Es una idea sencilla y directa pero hay tensión durante toda película y se siente la desesperación de la protagonista.

La historia arranca cuando Iris está en una montaña donde murió su hijo, el niño se cayó del precipicio mientras jugaba y ella por supuesto se siente culpable por no haberlo cuidado mejor, realmente no creo que yo hubiese dejado a mi hijo de cinco años jugar por un lugar tan peligroso pero bueno esto es lo que hace que se cree toda la trama, el tipo este Richard aparece justo cuando ella está a punto de saltar y le cuenta una historia sobre cómo perdió a su esposa en un accidente de carro y logra convencerla de que la vida vale la pena pero resulta que todo es una mentira para poder secuestrarla, es bastante retorcido esto. El tipo la inyecta con una sustancia que la paraliza completamente en veinte minutos, durante ese tiempo ella puede moverse cada vez menos hasta quedar totalmente inmóvil pero consciente, es desesperante pensar en estar atrapada en tu propio cuerpo sin poder hacer nada mientras un loco te persigue. Aquí la actuación de Kelsey Asbille es bastante buena considerando que gran parte de la película tiene que actuar solo con los ojos y expresiones faciales, porque uno puede sentir el terror y la desesperación aun cuando ella no puede hablar ni se mueve.

Richard me recordó a Josh Hartnett en Trap donde trata de ser encantador pero se nota que algo no está bien, aunque a veces se vuelve repetitivo cuando trata de manipular a cada persona que se encuentra, el tipo claramente es un asesino serial experimentado que hace esto regularmente, yo creo qwue el tipo está mal de la cabeza pero bueno. Por supuesto tiene una familia que no sabe nada de sus cosas y usa los fines de semana para cazar mujeres vulnerables, lo más perturbador es que dice que quiere agarrarle una trenza en el cabello a Iris, dando a entender que hace cosas muy enfermas con sus víctimas antes de matarlas, la película no entra en detalles gráficos pero deja suficiente a la imaginación para que te genere esos nervios, hay varias escenas donde Iris casi es rescatada pero Richard siempre logra salirse con la suya matando a quien trate de ayudarla, incluyendo un policía y un señor mayor que la encuentra, estas muertes lo que demuestran es que Richard no va a detenerse ante nada.

Auinque se nota que la producción es de bajo presupuesto está bien hecha, las tomas del bosque son amplias y se ve que es un lugar aislado, la música mantiene la tensión sin ser exagerada y pienso que supieron aprovechar bien los espacios naturales, Sam Raimi aparece como productor lo cual me pareció un poco raro pero supongo que vio potencial en el proyecto. La dirección es normal hace su trabajo como quien dice aunque no hay nada revolucionario, es una película que sabe lo que quiere ser y lo ejecuta bien sin tanto adorno, hay algunos momentos donde la lógica no cuadra porque Iris logra hacer cosas que no debería poder hacer estando paralizada, pero creo que es algo necesario para que uno se mantenga allí enganchado. El final es bueno aunque predecible porque Iris logra recuperar suficiente movimiento para defenderse y matar a Richard en un lago usando el cuchillo de él, aparece el barquito de juguete de su hijo que representa dejar ir el pasado y encontrar razones para vivir.

Para mí Don't Move es una película decente, me entretuvo por hora y media y ya, no le puedo dar un gran puntaje porque no es una obra maestra pero tampoco es la porquería que esperaba de un exclusivo de Netflix, yo le doy un 6.5/10, la actuación principal es buena, la idea también es interesante para mantener tu atención aunque sin duda tiene algunos momentos estúpidos donde los personajes toman decisiones cuestionables para extender la duración, muchas veces pensaba no lo sé Rick no lo creo jajaja, esta es una peli que puedes ver un viernes por la noche sin grandes expectativas y sin pensar mucho, pero si resultó mejor que muchas otras producciones originales de Netflix que he visto últimamente aunque el final es algo predecible.

While I was one day looking for what to watch, I found Don't Move on netflix and well we already know that some of the movies on this platform are not very good but this one is not too bad, it doesn't last long which is perfect for this kind of simple but effective stories, it is rated R for violence and some swearing but nothing too extreme, the only thing that did stress me out a bit is to be listening to the heavy breathing during the whole movie. The main character is Kelsey Asbille playing Iris, a woman who just lost her son and is one step away from taking her own life, but this guy named Richard shows up and convinces her not to do it, what she doesn't know is that this guy who appears to be very good turns out to be a total psychopath who has very twisted plans for her, like if that woman didn't have enough she ran into this crazy guy who came to fuck up her life. It's a simple and straightforward idea but there is tension throughout the film and you can feel the desperation of the protagonist.

The story kicks off when Iris is on a mountain where her son died, the boy fell off the cliff while playing and she of course feels guilty for not taking better care of him, I really don't think I would have let my five year old son play around such a dangerous place but well this is what makes you believe the whole plot, this Richard guy shows up just as she is about to jump and tells her a story about how he lost his wife in a car accident and manages to convince her that life is worth living but it turns out it's all a lie so he can kidnap her, it's pretty twisted this. The guy injects her with a substance that completely paralyzes her in twenty minutes, during that time she can move less and less until she is totally immobile but conscious, it's desperate to think of being trapped in your own body unable to do anything while a madman chases you. Here Kelsey Asbille's performance is quite good considering that much of the film she has to act only with her eyes and facial expressions, because one can feel the terror and desperation even when she can't speak or move.

Richard reminded me of Josh Hartnett in Trap where he tries to be charming but you can tell something is not right, although at times it gets repetitive when he tries to manipulate every person he encounters, the guy is clearly an experienced serial killer who does this regularly, I think qwue the guy is messed up in the head but oh well. Of course he has a family that knows nothing about his stuff and he uses the weekends to prey on vulnerable women, most disturbing is that he says he wants to grab a braid in Iris's hair, implying that he does very sick things to his victims before killing them, The film doesn't go into graphic details but leaves enough to the imagination to give you those nerves, there are several scenes where Iris is almost rescued but Richard always manages to get away with killing anyone who tries to help her, including a policeman and an older man who finds her, these deaths show that Richard is not going to stop at anything.

Although you can tell that the production is low budget it is well done, the shots of the forest are wide and you can see that it is an isolated place, the music keeps the tension without being exaggerated and I think they knew how to take good advantage of natural spaces, Sam Raimi appears as a producer which seemed a little strange to me but I guess he saw potential in the project. The direction is normal, it does its job as they say although there is nothing revolutionary, it is a film that knows what it wants to be and executes it well without much embellishment, there are some moments where the logic does not fit because Iris manages to do things that she should not be able to do while paralyzed, but I think it is something necessary to keep you hooked. The ending is good although predictable because Iris manages to regain enough movement to defend herself and kill Richard in a lake using his knife, her son's toy boat appears which represents letting go of the past and finding reasons to live.

For me Don't Move is a decent movie, it entertained me for an hour and a half and that's it, I can't give it a great score because it's not a masterpiece but it's not the crap I expected from a Netflix exclusive either, I give it a 6. 5/10, the main acting is good, the idea is also interesting to keep your attention although it certainly has some stupid moments where the characters make questionable decisions to extend the duration, many times I thought I don't know Rick I don't think so hahaha, this is a movie you can watch on a Friday night without great expectations and without thinking much, but if turned out better than many other Netflix original productions I've seen lately although the ending is somewhat predictable.
