In the world there are these ideas that only certain people and places are allowed to have nice things. Therefore we expect that the University of San Francisco is supposed to have lovely roses like the above ... I had gone up there to the lawn in the afternoon to enjoy part of my walk, and so found the roses above ... and also these ...
These were my companions when I came to rest on a sunny bench...
USF is considered the best college in the western United States right now, edging out Stanford, so one would expect it to have nice things.
But before this, in the busy streets of San Francisco, I had captured these sunflowers and sweet alyssums ...
... some very reflective nasturtiums with taller purple friends ...
... and then seen the "nice bum," upside down and barely visible in a rough corner, but still ...
This reminded me of something I see in the parks often because I am looking for quieter places; the poor and the outcast often are doing the same thing, leaving a busy world system's busyness and rejection to enjoy some beauty and peace. For the beauty and peace of spring is for them, too.
And for you too. Whatever you are going through, whatever you have or don't, remember: although the things of the world system are divided and hoarded in what is often an unfair way, your place in the beauty and peace of this spring (or autumn, if you are in the Southern Hemisphere) is still yours, as is any inspiration you may get to better your life, or just release the stress for a little while! Go get it!
