Today I got active again with the Actifit step counter, and I'm bringing you a daily activity I did in the city of Valencia, specifically in downtown Valencia, which is where I most often go to pick up a prescription at the pharmacy and run errands. I also commonly go there when I go to the bank to withdraw cash or run errands.
Today I set my step counter and headed out very early in the morning to do some pending tasks, and I was planning to take photos of some murals I saw a few weeks ago when I accompanied my son to get his diploma and high school transcripts notarized, which he brought back from Colombia.
I found the location of the notary office interesting. Because it's not right in the center of Valencia, but rather on streets adjacent to the center of Valencia and a bit out of the way. These streets give the feeling of being hidden, far from the hustle and bustle, so to speak. We had to walk several blocks away from Plaza Bolívar in Valencia. We found ourselves on very narrow streets with little traffic, I suppose because they're far from the center of Valencia, where people gather and most of the businesses are.
Along these narrow, impassable streets, I came across some murals that really caught my attention. First, because they are not murals made by a renowned artist, however, they are simple murals. There was one of Nelson Mandela with the following quote that made me reflect for a few moments:
“The greatest glory is not in never falling, but in always getting up”
Right in front was another mural with the image of Frida Kahlo is in the center, to her left I presume a musician whose name I don't know, and to the right is the musician, composer, and revolutionary Alí Primera, who died decades ago and left behind a musical legacy and many revolutionary ideals that are loved by some and hated by others today.
The image depicting Frida Kahlo caught my attention because she's wearing a shirt from a very famous baseball team here in Venezuela, alluding to the Navegantes del Magallanes baseball team, the native baseball team of Valencia-Carabobo State. I found it very curious and funny that the artist put the jersey of this iconic Venezuelan baseball team on it. I can't imagine Frida Kahlo being from Magallanes. It made me laugh a lot, really.
I loved this other mural, which was practically on the same wall as the Frida Kahlo mural. I didn't see the artist's name or the year, but that doesn't detract from its merit. For me, it represents the role Venezuelan women played in our country's struggle for independence. A fierce, feisty woman. That's what we Venezuelan women are like, with that fighting spirit. That every day we do our best to keep moving forward.
It seems the murals were made by the same artist because of how closely related they are. I was glad I came across these murals and had the opportunity to show them to you today. There were other murals, however, because I was in a hurry, I didn't go into much detail about them. Next time, when I'm more focused, I'll take more photos. I hope you enjoyed this little piece of my beloved Valencia. I'll soon show you other historical sites in my city.

Parece ser que los murales fueron hechos por el mismo artista debido a lo cercano que están. Me gustó haberme encontrado con estos murales y poder tener la oportunidad de mostrárselos el día de hoy.
