There are only a handful of waterfalls in the north of Cebu that you can count on your fingers, if there are, they are not as towering and mighty in flow compared to the majestic falls of the South. Surely, if we have falls in the North, even though they are just a few meters high, we already consider them a gem. Well, yeah, all natures are a gem, but if they are rare to be found, it doubles their value just like the Bagatayam Falls of Sogod.
The Bagatayam waterfalls of Sogod is located right beside the road going to Cebu City however, only very few passersby or passengers going back and forth to Cebu know that this waterfall exists. Why? For the reasons that, first, the view of the falls from the road is covered with trees, second, it doesn't have that noisy sound that you can immediately hear when you pass by (which made me conclude that the waterfall is deep, it's powerful beneath the surface). Lastly, the falls' charm is not only for passing by; it requires a nature lover to stop by and stare at its beauty. For me, it is not just a passing glance but it's a "stop-and-smell-the roses" kind of wonder.
Who would not be in love with this turquoise green water? ๐
The waterfall is only for those who have a nose for the falls.
I mentioned this waterfall last time when I wrote about a blog of how we stumbled upon the Binaliw spring, the main source of the waterfall. After that, I visited the falls very often and even trekked on the river a hundred times. But even so, I still couldn't get enough of the beauty of the waterfall and how serene life is along the Bagatayam river.
Life in the river.
Aside from the gushing, flowing, and lively gargling of the water cascading by the river and to the waterfalls, I was surprised to discover that locals in this barrio still wash their clothes and even wash their dishes in the water. Though there are already installed water pipes to supply water to the houses of the locals. It's like the river is still their lifeline even with the conveniences around.
It's amusing to see that locals still prefer the traditional way of washing clothes and dishes. Even I, if I lived in this place, I'd choose to do these chores by the river. And I think I'd surely get the peace and contentment in life as I ponder while my hands are busy doing the chores! Isn't it amazing getting work done while finding tranquility?
If only I lived here, I'd absolutely enjoy coming to the river every day and do things I could do here. I'd probably create content here in the river and share it with people, letting them experience the serene and peaceful life in this river.
As I navigate again in Bagatayam river, I always take time to be grateful for the gift of nature around me. I may not be from here, but I made sure to often visit the waterfall often not just to enjoy its view but also to recharge and gather positive energy as I head back home and return to work. Thank you, Bagatayam for existing!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING!
